English Listening Resources

There is quite a variety of resources where you could practice your English listening. Some have more resources for lower-level listeners, some more for higher-level. Some are rather "British" or other forms of English, others are more American or mixed. I will add to this list. Learner English programs Breaking News English https://breakingnewsenglish.com/ (we have used this in class, it has 6 levels, but most articles are Levels 1-2-3 or Levels 4-5-6. TED Talks https://www.ted.com/ are probably too challenging for most of us. What are "skills"? How do we learn them? How is this connected to language?

April 1 (no 'fools')

Image
April 1st is known in the USA and some other countries as "April Fools Day." It's a day when children (and some adults acting like children) play jokes on others. In Korea it's known more for "little white lies," which is indeed a type of joke? A related game is know as "two truths and a lie." The objective is to help people know a little more about you after you tell two truths and one lie about your life - they have to guess which is the lie! Can you fool them? Current events include...

Listening Practice (Musical Math)

Image
English Listening (Musical Math)  The basic concept in Musical Math is something everyone hears when they are learning music with a teacher or tutor. "Practice Everyday, if you don't practice, you forget." The same is true when developing any skill - music or a foreign language!  Here's the math 7 days in one week 4 days practice 3 days no practice  + 4  - 3    = 1 1 / 7 = .143 Look at a different example.      7 days in one week      6 days practice      1 days no practice    + 6    - 1      = 5 5 / 7 = .714 Big Difference! So the hint here is to Listen to English everyday, at least 15 minutes LISTEN , not study. Get more comfortable hearing English, your stress about English will decrease and your ability to pronounce more clearly will get better, because you are getting your "English ears" (you know what English should sound like).
